Open and Visible Storage
In contrast to traditional art repositories, the artworks at Schaulager are stored in an open and visible manner. On one hand, this ensures that they remain accessible at all times for research purposes, and on the other the condition of the works can be continuously monitored and assessed within a constant climatic environment and under controlled lighting conditions.
The storerooms hold works from the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation established by Maja Hoffmann-Stehlin in 1933. To this day, the Foundation remains devoted to the acquisition of innovative and groundbreaking contemporary art.
