Research & Projects

Preserving the art of today for the world of tomorrow
At Schaulager, contemporary art is not only exhibited, but also stored and studied. This connection between display and storage poses fundamental questions for critical reflection on approaches to contemporary art in the context of a permanent collection.

Documentation and conservation have a decisive influence on our future view of art works. What, in this connection, are the challenges facing conservators, curators and art historians working in the open field of contemporary art? And what concepts and strategies are currently being pursued?

Schaulager attaches great importance to promoting the study of art and presenting the results of its own research activities. Our programme of public events includes panel discussions, lectures and symposia, accompanied by scholarly publications. The events are an invitation to explore the work of Schaulager as a research facility.
